May Hot Topic - Current Year NI adjustments

NI adjustments should only be performed to amend balances in the current tax year.  If an adjustment is required for a previous tax year, this must be done by Balance Adjustments in the relevant tax year with a date track date of the end date of the last period for that year, e.g. for a monthly adjustment, this would be the 31st March.  This month¿s hot topic will focus on current year NI adjustments.

Manual NI adjustments can be made using element entries. As NI adjustment elements are not subject to retrospection, adjustments should always be applied in the current pay period.

In order to adjust NI, element entries should be entered for the NI letters for which you wish to make the adjustment.  For example, if the adjustment is to remove contributions from NI A and add to NI C, element entries should be entered for NI A, NI C and NI Employer.  The NI Employer element should always be entered for NI adjustments, even if the net adjustment to the NI Employers contribution is 0.

It is advisable to run Quickpays both before the adjustments are made to obtain starting balances, and after the adjustments are made to check that the balances amended are correct.
